Staff Report to Community Advisory Committee
DATE: Tuesday, July 25, 2023
DEPARTMENT: Administration
SUBJECT: RCMP Policing Priorities for 2023
BACKGROUND:
Each year the City works with the RCMP to establish which areas the City would like focused on as priorities. These priorities are in addition to the regular enforcement work undertaken by the RCMP.
COMMENTARY:
Attached for consideration is a letter from the Westshore RCMP Superintendent Todd Preston. This letter provides additional background and gives examples of the priorities that the Committee may wish to recommend to Council as being priorities for the community. Typically, a community will select five or six of these priorities, as set out in the attached letter, these may include youth, traffic, visibility, restorative justice, drugs and gangs, community policing, child exploitation, sex crimes, fraud, property crime, mental health, or recruiting.
Each community may have different priorities or see different needs, having the ability to direct resources in this manner allows a community to address those priorities in its own way.
